Project Overview
This is the continuation of the Beautiful Garden project. We have expanded our team and now we create our own system which I now am lead programmer of the team. The game is still about dream but there is more than one dream and it come in form of tapes.
In this game each episode will have unique rules and atmosphere. There are some unique systems and design being implemented into each episode. And by completing the game each player get different message and story from it since it is based on player's perspective and preload.
3 main pillars of this game is Psycological horror, No jump scare, Unique episode.
Challenges
We have no real artist so some designer become full time artist which make us short of designer. Due to the short of designer the ux part of the game lack on implementation which cause programmer to do repetitive works.
Solution
We tried to make least props and reuse them to make sure that designer who are busy with making arts are back to designing task asap. Also as I am programmer I tried to speed up my progress to make sure that the new design get tested asap. I also try to discuss the design before it is being put into coding to reduce the times that the same work get repeat.
What have I learned?
- Long term programming and maintaining. In this year long project I have learned how programming without planning for long term is lethal that when the technical dept occur it is hard to fix.
- Ux is very important. for those system that are not straight forward the ux is what get player to learn how to use or follow the system and with lack of ux design can lead to huge frustration or can even lead to player not complete the game. So UX should be planned along the design.
