Project Overview
IAI is a steam punk japanese themed topdown bullet hell game where players play as a girl with sword style that attack with dash. This game feature challenging gameplay but also feature styles. This project was aimed to be sent to game competition fair.
My role in this game is Director and Project manager which I planned the development pacing and hand out works to others, I also give feedback for others work and keep them on the same directions.
the main design pillars of this game is Challenge, Style, Story.
Challenges
Huge challenge is to make sure that everyone is seeing the same picture as I did and confirm that the direction that we are going is good enough. Also another challenge is to keep everyone motivated during the development period.
What happened?
The part of keeping everyone on same track is not lethal with proper communication method but the part that I failed is to keep everyone motivated. The reason of this is that all of the team member did this project as a side project and they also have their university class that is going on at the moment. With no clear sight of benefits and no string attached to them they didn't focus much on the project which in the end most of them were dropping out due to tireness.
What have I learned?
Well even the project is not completed, I have experienced in managing larger team and directed an action game. But more from that I need to work on motivation part more. even it is hard to reach out to everyone in the team, I have to make sure that everyone on the team is happy on what they are doing and keep them on the project.
