Project overview
This game is a routine game where players will be playing as a owner of photo processing shop. The game will tell stories of the customer through dialogues and photos. And as players proceed through the game things will get weirder.
For this project I take the role of creative director and control the atmosphere within the game. Also take the role of music composer that create scores for this game. This is one of the most challenging project that I ever worked on, since the game itself and the concept is new to me and team. So we done a lot of experiment along the way and came up with this game.
Challenges
As a creative director, the hardest part of the project is to do a lot of research . Thus I have to understand how the routine games work and create engagement, also how the actions of photo processing are really done and what is the playfulness within it. And I have to make sure that the feelings and experiences is right as the intension of the ideal design is.
As a music composer, with the overall presentation of the game, I have to explore more into genres of musics and create scores that represent the message of each part of the game.
My solution and my contribution
For the part of crative director, I have done a lot of research and try to understand the concept and the works that needed for it. So I have to understand how others in the team works, so that I can give right feedback and create improvement for the project.
For the part of music composer, After exploration and discussion with my teammates, I decided to create a complete contrast for the scores that the scores will be separated into two parts. The frist part conduct ordinary feelings while the second part create some weirdness and make player question about it. So with all of the soundtracks presenting in a well designed sequence the message of the game does complete.
What have I learned?
- How to work with artist.
This is my first project that I officailly work with artist, So I have learn alot from them for example : The way that they works, How to communicate with them, what do they need from designer and etc.
- How sounds affect feelings.
As to deliver the game message, I have listened to a lot of music and with my attempts have try to break them down to elements. I have got a lot of knowlege from them such as, how to make audience feel lonely, how to make audience feel cheerful and etc.
